IASIG Audio Mixer
Wednesday, March 2, 6:30p-9:30p 16th Annual IASIG Town Hall Meeting
Friday, March 4, 12:30p-1:45p The IASIG annual mixer has quickly become the must-attend event of GDC
for audio professionals and educators. This year proved no exception as
IASIG filled the Thirsty Bear Brewing Company mezzanine for memorable
conversation, food and brew. Sponsors included fmod, the Berklee College
of Music and Dolby while prizes were donated by iZotope, IK Multimedia,
Big Fish Audio and SONiVOX.
This year's Town Hall Meeting was a little different from past years
because we not only had more time, but we dedicated a substantial portion
of the meeting to hosting a game audio education summit. All indications
are that audio education is playing an increasingly important role to our
industry. Summit speakers Steve Horowitz, Michael Sweet, Richard Stevens
and John Scanlon discussed how the IASIG Game Audio Curriculum Guidelines
were helping schools direct their programming and what next steps are
needed. Suggestions included extending outreach to high schools,
soliciting feedback from the industry, and raising awareness. The
Curriculum Guidelines have officially been published at http://www.iasig.org/eduwg.
At the Town Hall meeting Robin Arnott described his DAW working group
recommendation and formally submitted a WG proposal to the Steering
Committee. Kurt Heiden (Steering Committee Chairman) thanked EDUWG Chair
Richard Stevens for his leadership in producing the Guidelines document,
and noted vacancies in the Chair position for both the EDU Working Group
and iXMF Working Group. During the open floor session members once again
observed how various GDC session topics indicated that something like iXMF
would be valuable for the community, and suggested that the SIG take steps
to assure that working groups shorten the time needed to produce
deliverables and encourage more member involvement, as well as revamp and
improve its website and logo. As always, volunteers are needed!
